OKLAHOMA CITY– Almost 40 names are being removed from the Oklahoma sex offender list. Oklahoma County Judge Dan Owens ordered the removal of those on the list because their length of time was extended retroactively. Earlier this week, Owens ruled that the state can’t increase the number of years a person’s name is on the list after they’ve been added.
In 2007, state legislators changed the law lengthening the amount of time Sex offenders must remain on the registry.
The new ruling affects only offenders convicted before 2007.
The people removed have completed their time on the list under the laws that were in place at the time they were convicted.
Officials with the Department of Corrections say the state has not yet decided whether or not it will appeal the decision

Sex offenders should be on the registy forever. The victims of the sex offenders weren’t asked if raping them was fair.
I agree 100% Jill. Their name should always be associated with being a sex offender. No if and’s or buts about it. Too bad we don’t still brand people any more, I for one would gladly burn a big S/O on their forehead
