MANITOWOC — A 38-year-old registered sex offender, who lured Manitowoc high school girls into inappropriate Facebook “friendships,” will spend four months in jail.
Raven K. Laws, 426 N. Ninth St., Apt. 7, pleaded no contest Friday in Manitowoc County Circuit Court to a felony sex registry violation. Judge Jerome Fox withheld Laws’ sentence and placed him on probation for three years. As a condition of probation, Laws must spend four months in jail starting Jan. 10. A felony charge of child enticement was dismissed.
According to the Manitowoc Police Department: Laws befriended at least three girls, ages 16 to 18. The inappropriate and sometimes sexually explicit Facebook chats began in October 2010 and police were alerted in May. He admitted to telling at least one of these underage girls that he loved her and wanted to have sex with her. As a sex offender, Laws was required to report his Facebook site to the Department of Corrections, but he did not.
Other conditions of his probation include: obtaining an assessment, treatment and counseling as recommended; undergoing sex offender assessment and follow up; having no contact with the victims; having no contact with any child under 18 unless approved; maintaining full-time employment and/or schooling; paying court costs and supervision fees; and submitting to a DNA sample.
